A group of criminals kidnap a teenage ballet dancer, the daughter of a notorious gang leader, in order to obtain a ransom of $50 million, but over time, they discover that she is not just an ordinary girl. After the kidnappers begin to diminish, one by one, they discover, to their increasing horror, that they are locked inside with no normal little girl.
This movie contains 49 potentially triggering events.
It's said that Joey and Frank abandoned their families, though the exact circumstances are left ambiguous. The end of the movie shows that Joey is going back for her son.
Abigail's motivation is to try and get attention from her distant father. When she is spilling the backstories of every other character, she says that Joey and Frank both "abandoned their sons;" Frank left his family to go into hiding and Joey left her son with his "fuck-up" father in hopes of coming back to him once she was clean.
One character is referenced to have an abusive father, but this isn't mentioned again. Abigail feels neglected by her father, and Frank and Joey both abandoned their kids. Only the latter feels bad about it.
Depends on how you read the ending; Abigail's father arrives and tries to attack Joey, but does back off when Abigail tells him to, and seems to understand what's going on when he carefully tells her that he's "here now."
One character, a former abuse victim, is shown as nothing but kind and caring to the other characters. On the flipside, Abigail is a "neglected child" who is also a killer vampire.
A character makes a bet to have another character guess one true thing about them. later he is mad at her and says “You just had to go and do your little magic trick” about her saying true things about him. even though he was the one who goaded her into doing it but is implying she was the one who wanted to show off.
While thinking Abigail is a normal child, Frank and Peter pin her to the bed and inject her with sleeping drugs. Frank almost punches her, but is stopped. Later in the film, he goes into her room, roughs her up, and points a gun at her head. In another scene, he sends the muscle of the group to torture her for information, but Joey defends her from both men.
It's then that Abigail is revealed to secretly be a killer vampire, and she attacks the group. She is then repeatedly shot, stabbed, has her arm burned off temporarily, and her blood drained, but at this point she is the predator.
Abigail is restrained once kidnapped. It's revealed that she can easily escape, and no bonds manage to hold her.
At the end, Joey is stabbed through the shoulder and held against the wall. She is eventually pulled out.
Abigail's first victim is found decapitated. A character sees his body and touches it only for the head to fall off. We're told this is a trademark of her kills.
Abigail often twists and convulses in inhuman ways. Several bodies are found in various horrifying and bloody states, and one character falls into a swimming pool full of half-eaten corpses.
In an interview with Total Film, the directors felt they needed to apologize to the cast for the volume of blood they used on set. They said: "All of our movies are bloody. But I would say that this is definitely the most bloody. We spent a lot of time apologizing to our actors on this movie! I mean, blood is in the DNA of a vampire movie, and the amount of blood work in this one is... It's pretty extreme! But it's still fun."
No main characters' family members die onscreen. They all reference having families they want to return too, though, and only one character makes it out.
Frank is stated to have "abandoned his son", but this isn't brought up again. The two major parent characters– Joey and Abigail's father– survive to the end scene.
Abigail is abducted at the beginning of the movie. It turns out that this was her plan, though, and she holds all her captors hostage in order to hunt them.
First scene is maybe 30 or so minutes in. It’s after a dead body is discovered. A character screams and then it cuts to another character briefly sitting in a chair. When it cuts back the original character who screamed they are v* into a sink. Audio only.
The second scene is towards the end. A twist happens with a character from the beginning. It’s hard to describe without giving stuff away. But after a character agrees to a deal, they are fed blood. The v* is easy to see coming, but it is a drawn out graphic scene. The character who is fed blood, v* blood for like 15 to 20 seconds. It’s graphic, but it’s just blood. After the character starts talking, you can look.
Nothing that particularly plays on claustrophobia but the main group is trapped inside a mansion with no escape. Additionally there are scenes in very narrow hallways that could distress claustrophobic watchers.
Due to the fact Abigail kills two of the captors BEFORE they even find out she can get out of her cuffs, it's clear she's been watching them the whole time. The last survivors later find an ally of hers watching them with security cameras.
One character pulls out a crucifix necklace in hopes it will ward off the vampire, and crosses themselves upon seeing her. She later takes the crucifix and repeatedly stabs him with it, showing it has no effect.
One character, drunk, is in another character's room and implies he wants to sleep with her. She kicks him out. Later, a penis is drawn on a sleeping character's face.
A male character is insulted for having a breakdown after being attacked by a vampire, but to be fair, it's not because he's a guy, it's because the other characters are trying to mount an attack and need him on his feet.
Everyone who was okay with the idea of harming a child (before they knew she was a vampire, that is) dies; Abigail’s father finally shows up for her*; and it’s implied Joey may finally take steps to reunite with her son.
However, many of the more sympathetic characters in the crew are also dead; Abigail’s relationship with her father is still incredibly strained; and the one person who was there for her is likely—understandably—too traumatized by the ordeal to ever want to see her again.
*It may also be worth noting that he showed up too late to provide Abigail with any real protection.
