When a struggling comedian shows one act of kindness to a vulnerable woman, it sparks a suffocating obsession which threatens to wreck both their lives.
This tv show contains 51 potentially triggering events.
The main plot involves the lead character Donny being stalked and digitally harrassed by a woman who comes into his workplace in episode 1 and becomes obsessed with him. This includes "love-bombing" him, following him on the street, spamming by email and text message on a daily basis, stalking on social media, hanging around his home address and cat-calling. The series is based on the lead actor's real life experiences that he then turned into a one man show. He is shown becoming very distressed by this behaviour and attempting to report it to police.
A woman physically attacks a man whom she believes is her ex-boyfriend. They were never in a relationship, but it could be similarly troubling to watch.
References to past abuse. Main character's father speaks about being abused while growing up in the Catholic church. Doesn't say how old he was when it happened but implies he was underage.
At the end of episode 2, Martha follows him and keeps saying tag. Donny (the main character) keeps fighting her off verbally and physically until she suddenly backs him up against a wall and grabs his crotch. He asks her to stop but she tells him to stay still and he goes into freeze response. It is utterly horrible to watch and I would skip if this kind of thing triggers you.
In episode 3 we see the direct aftermath of the serial assault and its extremely realistic and triggering. (He takes time off work and describes how the memory and feeling of it wouldn't leave him alone)
Episode 4- Donny is sexually assaulted by Darrien right after he throws up in the cat bowl (I think, I skipped for my own triggers) After this at roughly 26 minutes in, we see Donny wake up in the floor and then it pans to Darrien ...sexually assaulting Donny. Donny then gets up and goes to the toilet and finds his spit around his genitals. Then right after Darrien gives Donny a shot to cool him down from his bad acid trip, Darrien lays him down and r*pes him on screen. Its horrific. Please skip if this triggers you.
In episode 1-4 of season 1 you can see clown noses and other clown related props in MCs suitcase of comedy props, they aren’t used but are visible many times
Adding onto the other comment, while not slurs specifically, the main character is dating a trans woman and is ashamed to be seen out with her, and be affectionate with her for fear of people seeing them together. This could be triggering for a trans person who has experienced this type of thing.
Ep 2 mainly
I'd say yes - the main character's stalker threatens to tell his parents that he's bisexual before he's ready. Also shouts homophobic accusations at him in front of an audience.
although the words aren't directly said, thoughts of suicide are implied
(SPOILER)
when he says to his parents 'you have a choice between a bi son or a dead one because i cant handle it anymore'
A stalker frequently and graphically describes sexual acts they want to do to the main character. The main character has a comedy routine with somewhat crude humor.
Around 37 minutes when the main character is talking about watching porn then risky behavior it begins with him in the bathroom stall with a man. Then the next stall is a woman with fully and visibly topless as they have sex shown for a few seconds.
