What starts as a poignant medical documentary about Deborah Logan's descent into Alzheimer's disease and her daughter's struggles as caregiver degenerates into a maddening portrayal of dementia at its most frightening, as hair-raising events begin to plague the family and crew and an unspeakable malevolence threatens to tear the very fabric of sanity from them all.
This movie contains 63 potentially triggering events.
Not particularly obvert, but Deborah is hinted at frequently to be a very judgemental parent and is embarrassed of her daughter for being a lesbian. There is blatant homophobia and also smaller micro insults, like her mom telling Sarah that she wishes she dressed like a girl.
no, but a film crew is constantly documenting and filming deborah to show the progression of her alzheimer's. in most of these clips, she is unaware of being filmed.
many snakes, multiple points in the plot are based around snakes.
⚠️spoiler alert!!⚠️
deborah turns into this sort of snake-like humanoid creature. her jaw unhinges to eat, the way a real snake's jaw would.
Towards the end of the film an elderly woman asks an old friend to kill her and end her suffering. He attempts to fulfill her request by smothering her with a pillow. She struggles for a while but ultimately the man is knocked out and cannot finish the job.
the treatment deborah's alzheimer's can be considered very traumatic, almost torturous, and may trigger those who are triggered by torture scenes. while she was somewhat of a villain, she is experiencing trauma throughout the progression of her disease.
Multiple times throughout, Deborah goes into demonic fits and rages. There is also several scenes of her talking in a demonic voice/screaming unnaturally.
You don't see the actual act, but the camera crew runs to a door and hears Deborah purging and walks in to see she's thrown up a large amount of dirt and earth worms.
The movie doesn't get too crazy with the gore, but I definitely noticed in a few scenes some extra gore sounds to amplify what was happing since there is some body mutilation.
deborah mutilates herself at different points in the film. the most graphic parts are where she deeply scratches at her throat, and pulls a large layer of skin off her arm.
Deborah starts the movie with supposed Alzheimer’s and she gets very violent throughout the movie. Isn’t the reality but might still be triggering to some.
This movie is about Alzheimer's, and involves the main character, who has Alzheimer's, not knowing things she did, looking at photos of herself and not recognising herself, and forgetting parts of her past.
**As an epileptic, whoever voted no sucks** Scenes are chronological. • There’s a transition when the team puts up cameras which is a glitch/static effect which might be disorienting to some, it’s used frequently. • There’s a scene in the attic where the mum is working her old machine at night and sparks fly unexpectedly. • After the neighbor shoots at the cars, cops are called and the flashing lights at night are pretty bad. • The fireplace explodes and causes a camera glitch. • More police lights at night when the mum escapes the hospital. • The flashlight goes in and out in the mine. • Flashy transitions when they do find the mum in the mine (holy f*ck). • Flashy effects when they burn the bag in the mines (after the second time they find her).
Kind of? The film is a found footage/documentary format. There are documentary/informational scenes where a character addresses her audience and gives details about Alzheimer’s
There aren't any homophobic slurs, but there's a scene where an older daughter of the film's titular character describes how her mother shipped her off the boarding school after her mom caught her kissing another girl when she was a child.
Don’t know why the above comment got voted down earlier. That is a derogatory way to refer to that condition. The correct term is Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)
Voting YES because the way the woman cop talks to Sarah implies that shes also homosexual and i take no joy in seeing a lesbian cop. Feels as unnecessary and insulting.
The Entity they tried to destroy the whole movie, ends up surviving. The cycle that Deborah finally broke for herself continues in another character, so everything they did was pretty much for nothing.
