There is a scene in which a living man's stomach is cut open to reveal that his body cavity is full of moving tube-like structures that could be corrupted intestines or a worm-like/snake-like parasite. Use your discretion.
There was a scene that I initially mistook for possible sexual assault, but which was actually just there protagonist struggling to not be crushed against a wall by an alien life-form. The creature does not appear to have genitals and the character appears to be unharmed and with her clothes intact after the struggle.
An alien life-form crushes the protagonist against a wall, where she struggles to breathe and loses consciousness. Characters pant in some scenes from distress. No smothering, choking, or strangulation are depicted. A character is pulled underwater, but underwater action is not shown and lack of oxygen is not emphasized.
Yes there is a good amount of body horror. The natural phenomenon that they are researching changes DNA combining creatures together and there's a scene where a man is cut open and his organs move
A character's lower jaw is torn off when she's mauled to death. Also potentially disturbing though not tooth damage specifically: several creatures and what remains of a human corpse have lower jaws that look creepily protruded. A crocodile has too many rows of teeth.
Not really? Close to the end one character is shown to no longer have eyes(implied a mutation from the shimmer), but it's not at all graphic, and the scene is pretty dim so it's honestly fairly easy to miss.
The main character has a somewhat self sacrificial mindset when entering the shimmer, as she is willing to enter a place no one has come back from for her husband, but she doesn't actually die. But!! In the bear scene, a character that is already very wounded draws the bear away from the others, and dies because of it.
Multiple characters as well as two mutant animals. (spoiler) implied some characters are "absorbed" into the supernatural entity and become part of it rather than being fully killed
Faceless doppelgänger alien figure that looks like a mannequin made out of some sort of metal or smooth gray skin sort of material? It actively moves and copies the MC, and really gives mannequin vibes. Also the plant people, faceless and unmoving, yet they look like people
Not really but it is focused on military related characters. Both the protagonist and her husband are/were military and it's not shown in an incredibly negative light, but also not that positive of a light either tbh.
1) forced sedation involves neck injection. 2) hospital and ambulance involves needles but mostly focuses on other things. 3) characters draw own blood to view it in the microscope a couple times through the series. one is particularly gruesome.
We see the inside of an ambulance and a quarantine resembling a hospital room. Depiction of a gurney, hospital bed, IV, oxygen mask/ventilator, and heart monitoring equipment.
self-harm scars are clearly visible on a character's arm, and the main character uses a knife on herself but not to self-harm (to test her own blood under the microscope)
One character suffers a breakdown after the events of the film and restrains the other characters to chairs, threatening to cut them open with a knife.
One of the characters becomes paranoid and loses control. Disoriented and frightened, she ties and gags the other characters and emotionally interrogates them before expressing confusion over reality, clutching her head.
The male lead commits suicide with the use of a phosphorus grenade. Another character essentially gives up on living. She states that she no longer wishes to escape or fight and walks off-screen as plant-like structures erupt from her arms. When the protagonist rounds the corner after her, she has become indistinguishable from the surrounding plant life.
Kinda? There's some swears said, but it's not over the top and is usually just as a surprised/startled reaction to something happening to the characters.
Two instances of phosphorus grenades being set off, causing bright flashes and whitish fire, which is extensive in one sequence. Use of bright, pulsating colours in a few scenes depicting cell mutation/division and alien life-forms. Depiction of an active ambulance.
A main character is dragged underwater by a mutated crocodile and a great deal of underwater thrashing is seen, but when she emerges from the water she doesn’t cough up water or demonstrate any other signs of having almost drowned.
Two gory character deaths; one is killed by a bear off-screen, though her mutilated body is later shown. Another is killed later in the film by the same bear, this time on-screen; very graphic and bloody death scene.
