A girl describes killing her dog, though we do not see it. In another instance the killing of puppies is mentioned. Both take place in the first episode.
S1E7: Yennefer mixes herbs and gives them to the girls. The mixed herbs have a psychedelic effect.
Technically you could call some of the spells drugs as well. For example in S1E5, Yennefer has a smoking bundle of herbs that she blows towards the couple (specifically the man) that is basically viagra.
In episode 6, a starving magical creature is dismembered and killed. Skip from 12:37 til 13:58. Or skip to 18:20 if you don't want to see it being eaten (it's head is in the background).
S01E01 - 24:30 - Renfri mentions she was raped by the man after her S01E03 - 32:36 - they discuss a potentially non consensual relationship with the king S01E04 - 16:48 - an elf mentions war and raping S02E01 - 54:59 - a friend confesses to raping a priestess S02E02 - 22:20 - woman mentions that the witcher had paid when others had not - 24:26 - mention of what he would do with a princess
None of the above depict or flashback to anything.
In episode 5 a character is attacked by magical means and struggles to breathe. It goes on for several minutes. It happens right after Geralt finds a sealed clay vessel in the river when he is looking for a djinn.
S1E4: One of Fringilla's comrades slices a piece out of Calanthe's arm and eats the flesh. Fringilla then guts him and is able to determine that Ciri is in Brokilon forest.
in episode 1 there is graphic discussion of people being burned alive (amongst other torture). episode 8, ~36 minutes in a woman is hurt by a burning torch held to her throat. episode 8, 50 minutes in, many many people are burned alive
S2E2 and E3, a Witcher is transformed into a monster and uses tree limbs as arms and legs, which are cut off, regrown, and cut off. In Episode 3 the Witcher’s dead body is shown to have been flayed with no limbs, but tree roots instead.
I don’t know how to explain the scene other than Geralt fights a monster made up of headless bodies and when the body is killed the conjoined heads die…sorry it’s a weird concept
Complete List for Season 1: (Minor Spoilers)
- In Episode 4 there are 2 scenes. When Yennefer goes through the portal with the woman and her baby, the woman vomits from shock. She retches, gets up, then about 30 second later falls over and vomits with sound and graphics. Second occurrence is near the end of the episode. Cirilla’s mother vomits directly after the wedding ceremony. Only lasts a few seconds, mute and look away for about 10-15 secs.
- In Episode 5’s opening sequence, Mousesack vomits (sound & graphics) when confronted by the Nilfgaard. Vomit is in his beard for the rest of the scene until the title screen shows. I really recommend skipping it. If you do, here is a brief summary of the first 5-7 minutes: (MAJOR SPOILERS) **The head of the Nilfgaard drains Mousesack of his powers, kills him, and has a shapeshifter take his place. The Mousesack you see after the title sequence is a Nilfgaardian shapeshifter. **(END SPOILER) While this is not technically vomit, the bard does cough up blood a few times in this ep as well. It’s easy to see coming and averting your eyes for 5 seconds or so should be fine.
- Final scene is in the last episode (Ep 8), right as the battle against the Nilfgaard begins. Tissaia orders Triss to execute her attack, which releases a crop of poisonous mushrooms. All of the men die puking and choking. Graphics w/ noises. Lasts around 30 seconds.
In season two we see how a potion is injected into children to turn them into Witchers, with a syringe with multiple needles. We also see blood being drawn from a character with a long needle to make that potion.
A girl attempts suicide by cutting herself in the beginning of episode 2 (before the opening credits). It is not shown, but her wrists are later shown wrapped with bloody bandages.
Not autism, no, but I feel it's worth mentioning that Yennefer was born with a hunchback, she is treated like she's "disfigured" due to the hump and her jaw being unsymmetrical, it seems to also be assumed that she is dumb or slow. during the time period, people that are different like a "defect" or "disability" are considered lesser people, disgusting and sold as slaves. Obviously, a hunchback isn't remotely like autism but the abilest bigotry is there.
Yennefer has what can be described as an anxiety/panic attack in s2 when she fails to make a portal while running through the woods (episode 2 I think)
Yennefer is obsessed with being "ugly." She is later "cured" by magically changing her appearance to "beautiful." She believes changing her looks makes her a better, more powerful person and will fix everything.
Kind of, both ciri and geralt discuss having nightmares of the things that haunt them and bad memories. They both visibly have haunting nightmares on screen.
S2E2 A baby in a dream cries and then its crib catches on fire. You don’t see the baby. Multiple babies crying and being hurt in the rest of S2, especially episode 8.
No, but there are repeated discussions of infertility and forced sterilization which may be upsetting to folks who are sensitive to miscarriage (I sure was...)
episode 3 ****SPOILER AHEAD**** shows the physically disabled character being "cured" of her physical disability, changing into a "beautiful" physically abled character.
**spoilers** in season 2 (beginning in episode 4, though the hatred of elves is throughout all of Season 1 + 2) there are scenes of elves being rounded up to be killed, as well as graffiti depicting elves as pigs (similar to depictions of Jews as vermin, etc.), and a general deep hatred of elves by several kingdoms. while not antisemitic in nature, it calls to similarities in how Jews were treated in WWII. it could definitely be triggering to anyone Jewish (as it was for me)
In episode two, there is a scene with an introductory magic lesson. The only black student present is also the only character to be magically injured. She does not die.
YES. There is a scene that VERY EXPLICITLY portrays BDSM in Netflix's The Witcher TV show. The person that voted “no” probably didn’t watch the third season.
