A dog almost falls to its death, but Mario and Luigi save it and pull it back to safety. It's visible in the end being safe and sound with it's family.
Not necessarily abusive but Mario's father is unsupportive of him and accuses him of dragging Luigi down. He seems to have a change of heart by the end of the film.
Debatable, Kamek is abused by Bowser and forgives him. While not abused, Mario and Luigi seem to forgive Spike and Mario's dad for bullying them. Although supplemental material seems to imply Spike was an abusive boss.
You could count Bowser trying to learn everything about Peach and Marios relationship stalking, considering it's with the intent to marry peach himself.
Mario's father is initially unsupportive of him, and accuses him of dragging Luigi down with him. However, both brothers are already adults, and the father is eventually supportive.
According to the closed captioning provided in the YouTube Movies & TV release, Mario says "That's a little mushroom man" rather than wondering out loud if he had taken drugs
No dog fighting, but I do want to mention there's a scene where a dog repeatedly lunges at Mario and Luigi with vicious intent. No one is seriously hurt, but it could be startling for anyone who has been attacked by a dog and/or has a fear of dogs. Starts a little bit after Mario and Luigi walk into their first caller's bathroom.
Less sad, more shocked. The dog in the beginning stares at Luigi in disbelief after he accidentally steps on his bone. Then the dog gets downright vicious towards the bros.
at about 1h into the movie Mario and DK fall into water and are almost eaten by a freaking huge shark (they escape)
we first see the shark under water closing its fanged mouth then it rise at the surface, mouth open again
edit: subtitles says it's an eel not a shark (couldn't see for myself) but it does have freaking fangs. DK and Mario end up in its stomach (1:07) and we can see the eel mouth and fangs again when they escape.
There are little cartoony bugs in the intro when Mario is introduced to the Mushroom Kingdom by toad, but they are cartoonish and don't bring any harm to the characters.
The bullying scene has no dialogue nor is Luigi beaten up. In the scene, Luigi (as a toddler) has a raspberry blown at him, gets his building block castle knocked down, and is laughed at by the bully before Mario stands up for him. The closest scenes to someone getting beaten up by a bully are Spike throwing Mario to the floor at the pizzeria, Bowser hitting Mario and taunting him during the final battle, and a brief scene of Spike getting ganged up on by enemies before Luigi saves him.
A monster in Bowsers army gets turned into a skeleton by being blasted by his fire breath, but it's played for laughs and doesn't kill and/or seem harmful to the monster.
In the context of this movie the Dry Bones are more likely just sleeping underground and are coming out of the ground because Luigi startled them. They weren’t buried alive
No, however there is an animated skeleton creature (a "Dry Bones") who is run into and his bones separate, but he reassembles and it's not intended to be scary.
Donkey Kong gets knocked out by falling debris at one point. The situation is not played for humor and Mario has to save him from drowning while he's unconscious.
The Koopa Paratroopa general was a major supporting antagonist, and he's not seen again in the movie after he Blue Shells Mario and DK, so it can be assumed that he died. Several main characters do come very close to death, though.
Lots of non human monsters (both apart of bowsers army, peaches kingdom, and the jungle kingdom) are implied to be burned to death by lava, but it's never on screen. Lots of these same characters also get knocked into lava, off of cliffs, off of roads, and other methods that intend to be fatal, however nothing is shown.
No actual cheating, but Bowser is extremely possessive of Peach (even referring to her as his fiancé) and loses his temper whenever Mario is mentioned, even though Mario doesn't seem to be in love with her. [SPOILERS] He attempts to blow up the whole Kingdom when Peach rejects him.
Like everyone else said, it's during the training montage about 30 mins in. He remarks he dislikes mushrooms at the start which clues you in to where it's going. When he's sick it's about 5 mins into the actual montage, you see him leaning over the railing of the tower but there isn't much more visual/audio than that. It didn't bother me and I'm super emetophobic. Hope you're able to enjoy the movie besides this!
No, however a character who is referenced as a lunatic- (whistling while circling their finger around by their head) in the Bowsers Castle prisoner scenes- is shown to want to die and (more indirectly) want everyone else to die as well.
No actual suicide attempts, but a recurring minor character (Lumalee) frequently talks about wanting to die. (SPOILERS) In the climax of the movie Bowser's prisoners are slowly lowered into lava, which prompts Lumalee to giggle excitedly. Upon being saved, he is clearly disappointed.
There is a scene of Mario and Donkey Kong underwater after they are knocked off the rainbow road. Donkey Kong is showed sinking with Mario trying to save him.
Right before the credits, Lumalee speaks to the audience about how the film is over, and says something about it not truly being a happy ending because "it's just you and the void". Lightened up by him pulling out a saxophone and playing some music shortly afterwards.
Typical words like crazy, psycho, and lunatic- as well as a prisoner in Bowser's kingdom referring to another by circling his finger to the side of his head and whistling- however it's all comedic and I believe has no true intent of being discriminatory.
There is a scene where Kamek is dressed as Princess Peach so Bowser can practice proposing to her. However, the joke is more that Bowser’s practicing the proposal, rather than Kamek being in a dress.
No, granted it's odd that there are only white-passing Toads depicted given how many Toads are shown (and Paper Mario Thousand Year Door confirms that they don't all have one uniform skin tone) but no misrepresentation since there unfortunately are few minorities to begin with.
Mostly no but for a Mario lore deep cut that may or may not apply to the film’s canon: Kamek was Bowser’s father figure so there’s kind of additional subtext through that lense of a dad trying to help his awkward son practice for a first date 😂
Donkey Kong is knocked unconscious in the water and nearly drowns before he's saved by Mario. He doesn't die, but the scene could still be disturbing to somebody bothered by the imagery of drowning.
