The Smile is a story about beauty and horror, the definitive biopic documentary about the life and the downfall of Knud Dendermonde, the world-famous damsel-devouring horror-movie actor we all know as The Smile. In this documentary, we trace every step of Knud's turbulent life. There will be interviews with many of his colleagues, movie trailers and clips and unique behind the scenes footage. Finally, we get to hear the shocking truth, what REALLY happened!
This movie contains 77 potentially triggering events.
The main character scares her partner, and her partner says cruel things to her about mental illness, but I don’t think there’s any actual violence between them
(Minor spoilers) Victims of the curse are forced to traumatize other people in a similar way, not of their own will but there's an undercurrent of suicide being traumatic to other people.
Main premise of the movie is a monster that only one person can see, so everyone except that person says she’s “cr*zy.” Trying to get someone to believe her is a large part of the plot
Thanks to so many of you who give good information. As we all know these animals are not really killed, but who likes to see that kind of suffering in an animal. Even if we don’t actually see the abuse. I’ve come to really really rely on this app for every single movie I am about to watch. And all the very cool people who feel like I do, I am so glad this app exists!
The cat goes missing and ends up in the box at the child’s birthday party. The child unwraps the present and the dead cat is inside 😢 You do not actually see the cat die though
The picture of the body with its eyes mutilated come on while the main person and the police man joel is looking on the computer and then it’s shown again when rose goes to her sisters house then again with loads of other pictures of dead body’s when rose gets home
Two instances of character ripping their faces off, character is stabbed up close, pictures of brutal deaths are flashed onscreen. Other gory scenes throughout, don't watch if you're sensitive to that
The cat is killed. You don’t see it happening but you see it’s body. Also there is a scene where the demon thing is caught on fire and dies but it does look humanoid
There are a relentless amount of jump scares, and a lot that don’t involve usual audio cues to prep you for them. A few of the scares revolve around loud, sudden noises that are unexpected. If you are sensitive to loud noises, or are overstimulated by jumpscares, I don’t recommend seeing in theaters. This movie is LOUD.
Yes, but there is no horror or overt nudity associated with the scene. It's about 5 seconds long with only the back from the shoulders up shown. Nothing happens.
A few times throughout the movie it shows someone laying on a bed with what I think, given the context, is a v* stain on the sheets next to their mouth, but I could be wrong. Otherwise, this movie is safe!
A demon-like entity enters a person through their mouth, which stretches and unhinges to accommodate it. It kinda looks like the demon is being “eaten.”
No explicitly autistic characters, although there is one character —a patient in the main character’s emergency psychiatric facility— who could be. It’s unclear what his primary diagnosis actually is but he exhibits repetitive behavior. He’s mostly not mistreated but at one point the main character has a hallucination that he is becoming agressive and calls for him to be restrained by orderlies. That scene might be triggering for some of us. Also, later, she hallucinates repeatedly stabbing him.
Much of the film heavily revolves around a curse which drives someone to commit suicide after a certain amount of days of supernatural + psychological torment, thus being a major plot point in the film.
Main character stops off at a diner and eats very loudly, was triggering for me personally. Scene is only brief and happens after the diner's red glowing text is shown
The main character works in an emergency psychiatric facility but there isn’t any obvious behaviorism. Lots of psychoanalysis and gaslighting though, so that may have some overlap.
The entire movie is based of a chain of suicides. Specifically people watch someone commit and are forced to do the same. If this is a trigger, skip this movie.
Not sure why so many people are voting no, characters look directly into the camera multiple times. Most notably, a man says “you’re going to die” multiple times while looking straight into the camera. He is talking to another character onscreen, but he turns his head slightly to look at the camera instead, which makes it feel like his is addressing the viewer. Then at other times, the camera takes the position of the monster, and the character looks fearfully at the camera as if the audience is the threat to them. TL;DR No direct narration or meta-narrative, but characters frequently look at the camera, once while chanting “you’re going to die”
No, there are two note-worthy black characters, neither of them die but one of them is a criminal, so that may seem like bad representation. However, that criminal is seen in a sympathetic light.
MAJOR SPOILERS: Very dark, even for the horror movie. Not only does the main character die, but her emotional arc is unresolved, she dooms her main ally, and they do not manage to kill or even hurt the thing that’s killing them. Seems like it’s setting up for a sequel or something, nothing is resolved.
