Are animals abused?

Some animals don't necessarily die, but are severely abused. Are there graphic details about animals being beaten, bloodied, skinned alive, trapped in cages, starved, or neglected?

A rat is placed into a pan against someones belly and heat is applied to the pan. Also, some dogs are left in starvation, but they later eat their owner, which is nice.

I won't go into detail because it's too awful. If you're sensitive, this isn't for you.

No animals are abused on screen, but a dog is shown wearing a shock collar and it is implied that its owner is abusive.

Book 2 episode 16 has depictions of animal abuse. There's no blood or gore but the animal is, however, treated in a cruel way (not by any of the main characters, fyi).

Just the one scene, about 1/3 of the way in to the movie. No torture or anything too gruesome, but a rabbit has its neck snapped. The rabbit is only onscreen a few minutes so as soon as you see the rabbit step out/look away for 4-5 minutes.

There are no overly gruesome descriptions, but in MAG 30: Killing Floor, the setting is a slaughterhouse so there are frank discussions of animal death and abuse.

+ Montage in very beginning of film wherein shots of stripped cow and pig skulls are shown. Lobsters and cooked meats are shown on the platform throughout the movie. + Throughout the film, the eating of snails is brought up as a symbolic metaphor and used to justify cannibalism. This comparison may be distressing to vegan/vegetarians. + Dog death. SKIP (50:39-51:08) DETAILS FOLLOW SCROLL TO NEXT "+" TO AVOID: The character Miharu kills Imoguiri's "sausage dog" (dachshund) Ramesses II. The killing is done off-screen but Imoguiri is clearly distraught. There is a graphic shot of evidence of the murder. It is brief but upsetting. As the film goes on, it is clear that this vicious killing has damaged Imoguiri irreparably. + At around the (55 minute mark), Imoguiri refuses to eat from the platform, stating it's Ramesses II's turn to eat. As a dachshund owner, this scene was particularly hard-hitting. At (56:17) it's shown Imoguiri has become a victim of suicide by hanging. + Around 53:41 are shots of snails, first alive and then being prepared as a dish for the platform. In the following scene, hands are seen tearing at various dishes made from animals, obviously meant to be grotesque and disgusting. The main character finds the snails at 55:10 and eats them.

Buffalo Bill's dog, Precious, yelps because Catherine pinches her leg to make Bill think she's hurt. Catherine is seen holding Precious. In the book this is because Precious is not actually hurt and I think holding her in the film would also be to stop her running round and showing that she's not really hurt. Catherine is otherwise affectionate to Precious in both the film and the book. Spoilers: Catherine threatens to hurt Precious but no indication is given that she would actually go through with it, she sees the threat as a way to potentially escape Buffalo Bill. At the end Catherine seems to adopt Precious so the dog probably saw a vet and went on to live a happy life with Catherine. We don't see this but that's the impression I got.

What the other guy said, but a correction, Ariki has said in an interview that he loves dogs and believes that one of the best ways to stow that someone is a villain is to have them kill a dog.
