The last we saw or heard of his parents, they were both alive. The parents are perhaps in their 60s or so and come across anything but loving and caring.

First, we see the birth as if from the emerging baby's point of view - the birth canal, the light from the opening, the mother's knees and the doctor ready to receive the baby.
