A character hunts and kills several small arctic mammals called pesthry (I think it is something like a fox or a mink). It is strictly for food and we don't actually read about the hunting in detail.

Several characters are packed into a dark truck and kept in there for days, as they're transported across the country. In addition to darkness, the characters contend with cold, thirst, and terror. Two of the characters die from the ordeal. This is an extended and upsetting scene that seems to allude to transportation to concentration camps in N**i Germany.

However, there is a heavy focus on rationing food in the latter half of the book, and a section where the food has run out and they don't eat for a few days. Although this is because of necessity instead of a disorder, it may be distressing for some readers.

Almost every character is neuter/agender. The protagonist, a man, has enormous difficulty not seeing everyone else as either a man or a woman, and the book uses he/him pronouns for everyone. Revolutionary for its time, unfortunately a bit dated now.

Not so much slurs as xenophobic rhetoric. One of the characters is trying to whip up nationalistic sentiment, with the aim of going to war.

So in Gethenian society, sibling marriages are not considered taboo. One of the main characters was married to his sibling and had a child with them. The sibling is now deceased, but that relationship is still very emotional and significant for the character, so it's talked about more than once. There is nothing to suggest the relationship was non-consensual or coercive.

There are some mild descriptions of bloody injuries, and a somewhat graphic description of the main character being covered in another person's blood for an extended period of time.
