Not really. Sometimes the grandmother or occasionally the mom will hang out with the grandfather (who is dead) in their minds, but he’s not actually a ghost, they’re just imagining he’s there for comfort and because they miss him.

In the last episode of season 2 the grandmother is in a coma, and they make it seem like she’s going to die, but she doesn’t. Still an episode you might want to avoid because it’s very emotional and the characters are saying their goodbyes to her because they don’t know if she’ll live.

Schneider's past alcoholism is frequently discussed. He has a relapse near the end of season 3.

One minor character has had successful cancer treatment in the past; it is mentioned at the beginning of season 3.

Season 3 delves deeper into drug issues. Alex is caught using weed and vaping. His mother finds him at an event centered around marijuana and then searches his room, where she finds his weed and vape pen, which are shown. He is grounded, and it's a major plot arc, discussed over the whole season. Later in the season, Schneider's addiction becomes a major plot point as well. He relapses.

The daughter starts dating someone who uses they/them pronouns and the family learns about pronouns. There’s a bit of brief confusion at the beginning but they all learn quickly and are very respectful going forward.

Not directly, but there is an episode in Season 3 where they discuss in detail. May want to avoid.

The grandmother is in a coma in the hospital in the last episode of season 2. The grandmother comes out fine, and the episode does not emphasize the medical aspects and we don’t see any medical procedures. The mom is a nurse at a small doctors office, so in many episodes we see her in the office area talking to her coworkers, but we don’t see any medical things take place, and they’re almost never in the exam room.

There are repeatedly scenes in group therapy, though.

It is discussed that before the series started the father (who is mostly not in their lives anymore) did some really bad stuff while living with PTSD and alcoholism like telling his kids he was about to commit suicide. He wasn’t violent, and it’s off camera because it’s before the series starts, but they do talk about it multiple times.

There is an episode where the family is on lockdown in their apartment and they discover that the grandmother and the mother have a gun, and there is discussion about gun use during wars. However, nothing is ever shown on screen.

There’s mention of hate speech being used against a couple of the characters. The characters themselves do not use it.
