ReportThe Newton family live in their comfortable home, but there seems to something missing. This "hole" is filled by a small puppy, who walks into their home and their lives. Beethoven, as he is named, grows into a giant of a dog... a St Bernard. Doctor Varnick, the local vet has a secret and horrible sideline, which requires lots of dogs for experiments. Beethoven is on the bad doctor's list.

The man says goodbye to the dog, sees the vet put it in a cage, and drives home, believing that the dog will be put down the following day. When he arrives home, as far as I could tell, his children believe the dog has already been put down, and they're heartbroken. They then learn from their dad that it won't happen until the day after, and the whole family agree to go to the vet immediately to get the dog back. When they arrive, the vet claims that it's already been done, but the family doesn't believe him, and they rescue their dog - along with a bunch of stolen dogs that the vet was holding for nefarious purposes.

I always find this a hard one to answer, but I wouldn't say so. However, I want to mention one scene: A girl of about 7 sees someone doing something despicable and calls the person out when he lies about it to her family (which has serious consequences). Nobody believes her over the person who's lying, at least not until later.

No, the children are loved and cared for. However, I feel I must mention a scene which may be problematic. A fully adult female babysitter who's been severely inattentive, which led to the near-drowning of one of the children (a girl of about 7) whom she's supposed to take care of, pulls the girl aside slightly and says, "You were never in any real danger, were you? Now, we don't want you to get into trouble, so we'll let this be our little secret." Fortunately, she doesn't get away with it, as the girl's older sister is there and interferes immediately, and the babysitter is fired on the spot. ... Also, later on, the same little girl sees someone doing something despicable and calls the person out when he lies about it to her family (which has serious consequences). Nobody believes her over the person who's lying, at least not until later.

Dogs are captured/stolen and held in small cages by ice cold bad guys. The evil plan is for the dogs to be used as guinea pigs - chemical experiments and ballistics tests (you read that correctly). It's clear that it's an ongoing operation; these dogs aren't the bad guys' first canine victims. We also see (from a distance) the vet hitting a dog.

Dogs don't fight other dogs in this movie, however there is an accusation of a dog bite (set up so audience knows it's fake) and the suggestion of dogs attacking bad guys. (Bad guys are chased by a mob of dogs, and find themselves locked in a yard with multiple growling security dogs)

Yeah, the dog saliva splashing all over the place in the beginning of the movie is bad. All or most of it is ridiculously fake, but it's disgusting all the same.

Yes there are a handful of scenes involving veterinarians holding syringes. Definitely look away between 1:17:35 - 1:17:45 as several syringes go flying into a man's chest. Not graphic but might be upsetting to some.

I have to mention that the vet in the movie is a super evil bad guy (planning to carry out horrible experiments on dogs). He fakes being viciously attacked and badly bitten by a family's dog, then convinces the man of the family to have the dog put to sleep to prevent it biting other people - when really what the vet wants is to keep the dog for his experiments after it's been turned over to him. All this might lead to some children getting a trust issue with vets.

There's a bad guy with a gun. When he's just about to shoot a dog, he's foiled and doesn't get to shoot. Then he points the gun at a man, but is foiled by a dog, he falls, and the gun goes off, shooting into the air.
