The references to “the grinder” are pretty intense to imagine. When I watched this as a kid I thought they meant a literal grinder for people who talked back.

By accident and it’s played for comedic effect! Ed accidentally runs into a woman carrying a baby while on rollerblades and mistakenly ends up holding the baby. He then skates into a park and the baby is switched with a basketball during a game on the court but the baby is completely unharmed. The baby is obviously a doll but this could be a little bit stressful regardless.

In the mental institution scenes there is a man who is extremely large and has a history of violence. At one point Ed releases him from his straight jacket and the man goes on to briefly wreak havoc offscreen.

Lots of sound effects are overplayed for comedic effect, including wet/eating sounds and several people talking with their mouths full. Mouth sounds are my biggest misophonia trigger and I have no issues with this movie.

Not specifically, but Ed could be interpreted as autistic-coded and he is frequently talked down to and mocked for being “stupid”. He has symptoms such as misreading/being oblivious to social cues, taking everything extremely literally, hyperfixating on his special interest, etc. Ed also mentions speaking his first word at 6 years old. Shaquille O’Neill says to Ed “you’re not like other people, are you?” This in and of itself isn’t abusive but it does continue the pattern of people looking/talking down to him.

Dexter asks Ed if knows how to drive and asks if he can “read all the signs and stuff” implying that he thinks Ed might be illiterate/developmentally disabled. He also refers to Ed as a “nut”. “Freak/freak out” is also used, as well as “psychopath”.
