There are MANY jumpscares ALL through the entire series. Sometimes mere scene-transitions are jumpscares simply because the 'from' scene is quiet and the 'to' scene is loud and abrupt.

While there are jumpscares, it is worth noting that there are no monsters in this film, and the jumpscares are not very severe.

Near the beginning of the movie, the main character has an anxiety attack during a drug trip and she runs into a dark room. While she is looking into the mirror, a brief image of her dead sister appears behind her, and she runs away. The face that appears in the mirror is not too scary, but it is sudden.

Next, after witnessing two of the elders commit suicide by jumping off of a cliff, the main character has a dream that is inter cut with images of the dead bodies, and also the face of her sister. The images flash on the screen for short amounts of time. It is worth noting that some images shown are quite graphic and gory. One of the faces is completely smashed in and hollow, but the sequence is short.

This may be considered a jumpscare. One character is confronted while trying to take pictures of the sacred text. He his hit over the head with a mallet, creating a sharp sound that contrasts the rest of the quiet scene. After this, there is a long, maybe 5-10 second shot of a man wearing someone else's skin over his face as a mask.

There are, but surprisingly only very few. Most startling things were seeing a character getting startled by the soft clicking sound. These didn't even feel like they were meant to be junpscares but many people in the theatre startled the first couple times.

[SPOILERS]

In the first playthough, it could be argued that the player character discovering Sayori's hanging body could be considered a jump scare, since there is no music in the minutes leading up to it and the screen is black immediately before (upon making the discovery, loud, distorted music starts playing).

In the second playthrough, there are plenty of jumpscares, from glitches" to characters literally jumping at the player.

There are jumpscares throughout, the ones that I found the most jarring are during the first half of the film. Once the monsters have a bigger presence in the latter half, the jumpscares actually tone down as the thrill is focused more on suspense and survival aspects, though there are some jumpscares still peppered throughout the latter half. I generally dislike jumpscares but found the ones in this movie manageable and not exploitative or cheap. However if you're more intensely bothered by any and all jumpscares, you may want to skip this movie.

Oh man. In episode 8 there is this one crazy jump scare that will make you pee your pants. If you don't want it to be spoiled for you stop reading.

If you are scared and want to be ready for the jumpscare, it happens in s1ep8 when adult Theo and Shirley are arguing in the car and Nellie's ghost unexpectedly shows up

There are a relentless amount of jump scares, and a lot that don’t involve usual audio cues to prep you for them. A few of the scares revolve around loud, sudden noises that are unexpected. If you are sensitive to loud noises, or are overstimulated by jumpscares, I don’t recommend seeing in theaters. This movie is LOUD.
