Alice in Wonderland
Movie • 2010 • Family
ReportAn adaptation of the 1886 musical “Alice in Wonderland: A Dream Play for Children” by Henry Saville Clark and Walter Slaughter, Fotopoulos’ feature length film propels the Clark/Slaughter score into the 21st century digital age. Sculptures, drawings, text, and original music are used to explore the late 19th century’s evolution of painting, literature, and theatre into early photography and moving pictures. The piece probes the interplay of art and science and in exploring these ideas certain lives and themes are touched upon – the relationship between John Ruskin and Lewis Carroll, Ruskin’s theories on drawing, Thomas Eakins’ painting and his use of photography, the burgeoning of early cinema with Eadweard Muybridge and Etienne-Jules Marey, notions of amateurism and professionalism in art and the archetype of the condemned artist. The work is presented in two acts, remaining faithful to the musical’s original construction based upon Carroll’s narratives.

In a off-hand way there is gaslighting, in one scene the knave of hearts pushes Alice against the wall and says that he likes her a lot and she pushes him off and runs away and later when the queen of hearts confronts him he blames it on Alice and then she is pursued by knights

I don't why people are voting no for this. A central character who is a caterpillar is always smoking from a bong which creates a constant blue fog around him.

A large bird that is trying to attack some of the protagonist is killed with a large rock from above. There is threat of death to other animals but I do not believe there is any other animal death.

There are no clowns in the film and they aren’t even mention but the appearance of Mad Hatter (Tarrant Hightopp) might resemble a clown due to his hair and make-up.

There's not a lot of gore with red blood (mostly green and purple) but there is definitely still gore and fighting, not to mention beheading, and at the Red Queen's Palace decapitated heads float in the moat
