Lear's Fool is a court jester, and therefore most people with coulrophobia should not be triggered by his presence. He isn't a clown in the contemporary sense or as a theatrical device. For the most part, he is hardly even a comic relief character at all.
Most stage productions tend to downplay the stereotypical jester's appearance as well, since he is somewhat of an outlier in the archetype. Those unnerved by the appearance or nature of clowns will be safe reading or watching most versions of King Lear.
