In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as "The Basterds" are chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis. The Basterds, lead by Lt. Aldo Raine soon cross paths with a French-Jewish teenage girl who runs a movie theater in Paris which is targeted by the soldiers.
This movie contains 42 potentially triggering events.
There are dogs at the vet but none of them are harmed. I'm not sure what movie this person has seen? They go to the vet to get a human treated and nothing happens to any dogs.
Bridget is choked to death by Landa, and this scene can become more triggering when you learn that Diane Kruger was actually being choked by director Quentin Tarantino for this scene (she states that she agreed and felt comfortable).
A woman nearly had to get her leg amputated since she had a bullet in it, and the bullet was pushed into her leg as a form of interrogation, however not amputated.
A man who killed thirteen n**is is arrested and tortured before he is to be transferred to Berlin to be executed. It is implied that he had flashbacks to this after he is rescued from prison and the torture is shown there. Another character is tortured because they main characters suspect she is a spy for their enemies
They show a character being strangled. They show her face from close up, and how her eyes get all bloodshot and... if you are very sensitive to eye stuff, it can be triggering.
Although the kid is not technically shown, at the start of the movie everyone in Shosanna’s family is killed - including a younger brother who is said to be between 9-10 years old. It is relatively easy to skip though, as Hans Landa has dialogue before it that heavily implies what he is about to do, and he calls people in to do the deed.
A N**i is captured and given the choice between telling lieutenant Raine the Nazis positions in a particular area and being beaten to death with a baseball bat. He chooses the latter and it is graphically shown on screen
Ambiguous. In the final scene, Raine is looking down at Landa, whose forehead he just mutilated, and states “this just might be my masterpiece”. The angle from which he is looking could be interpreted as him looking at the camera, and the “masterpiece” line can be interpreted as an Easter egg from Tarantino (this is widely considered one of his best films).
Yes. There is copious antisemitic language, as well as extreme violence against Jewish people. The movie centers around Nazis; though it is more of a “the bad guys get what they deserve” movie, there are still graphically violent scenes, including gun violence, that are potentially very upsetting.
There was a hard cut to 2 people having sex but it was literally 2 seconds long and added for almost comedic purposes. No genitalia visible or even close to it
One very sudden but brief (2 seconds at most) flashback shot of two characters having intercourse after a line implying they know each other. Unfortunately hard to skip on first viewing.
It's a bittersweet ending. Many n**is are killed, including their high command, but multiple characters that are fan favorites are killed too, so the war is over but very few of the protagonists survive
