Luis Molina and Valentin Arregui are cell mates in a South American prison. Luis, a gay man, is found guilty of immoral behaviour and Valentin is a political prisoner. To escape reality Luis invents romantic movies, while Valentin tries to keep his mind on the situation he's in. During the time they spend together, the two men come to understand and respect one another.
It is implied that one of the characters had sex with a minor, but as that was a common accusation used to demonize gay men, it's never really clarified what happened. Nothing is shown, and nothing is discussed in detail.
Valentin has many injuries on his body throughout the movie and there are many mentions of ‘interrogating’ him. At the end of the film he is badly wounded from being tortured
The protagonists suffer from stomach aches and groan like they're going to be sick, but there is no gagging or vomiting.
Towards the end of the film, blood dribbles out of a character's mouth, but it looks like pinkish saliva and there is no gagging. I have emetophobia and was unbothered by anything in the film.
It depends on how you look at it, but Molina could be interpreted as sacrificing himself at the end for Valentin’s revolution however he does not explicitly cause any self damage to himself
