Frustrated with her mundane life, a Tokyo office worker becomes obsessed with a fictional movie that she mistakes for a documentary. Fixating on a scene where stolen cash is buried in North Dakota, she travels to America to find it.
Kumiko's pet rabbit Bunzo comes to no direct harm onscreen, but he is abandoned on a train, leaving his fate unknown. He reappears at the end of the film, but let's just say that the reality of this sequence is very much open to question.
There is a town sheriff who is portrayed as someone with good intentions, trying to be helpful but who doesn't really know how to help. He is not valorized, just a guy.
