Child abuse is the main theme of this movie: a "carrie-like" paranormal horror primarily concerned with child abuse consequences on the victim's mental health and, in the long-term, on society at large. Director Marina De Van doesn't indulge in a graphic depiction of the physical and sexual violence that Niamh (the protagonist) and her baby brother suffer at the hands of their own parents, but bruises and scars can be seen on the children's bodies. There's also a scene in which Niamh saves two children from their abusive mother: Niamh catches the woman in the act of mercilessly beating the children and uses her telekinetic powers to kill her.
