The title of the game implies that the titular anthropomorphic hedgehog is dead. However, the game actually is set in an in-universe murder mystery party game, where no one actually dies. Towards the beginning of the game, the player character finds Sonic "murdered", collapsed on the ground and and weakly saying that his body is growing numb before becoming unresponsive. The player character checks for a pulse, and can't find one, though they wonder if they're simply not checking correctly. The player repeatedly worries that Sonic may be actually injured (or, while not directly said, dead) until the conclusion, when it is revealed he was drugged with a non lethal sleeping agent.
