This is debatable depending on a few things. There is a silhouette of a woman being slapped, though I don't think it counts as brutilisation or a spectacle really. The same woman is eaten / almost eaten (depending on directors cut or theatrical release) by the plant, which is certainly a spectacle but very tame in terms of blood. If she *is* eaten, it is actually by her request, though the plant's initial attempt to eat her was nonconsensual.
Audrey, one of our main protagonists, is shown to be verbally and physically abused by her boyfriend. this is a big plot point, as she sings the song somewhere that's green a song about wishing she was with Seymour instead as he is good to her.
Not really, but Audrey talks/sings about how she deserves the abuse from Orin and she wont leave him because she wouldn't be able to find another boyfriend who would be willing to date her.
Audrey Two tries to bite a woman's behind. It's implied Orin sexually abuses Audrey. Audrey Two lifts Audrey's dress and some of the dialogue in that scene is reminiscent of a rape scene.
During ‘Dentist’ there is a lot of screaming from Orin inflicting pain. Also, in ‘Feed me’ Orin slaps Audrey, his girlfriend, and you can hear the slap
Orin is referenced to have killed small animals in his childhood, which is a well-known symptom of APD, but he's not diagnosed and its never mentioned that he's mentally ill. At the beginning of the movie a song says that Skid Row is a place where depression is "status quo," and many of the characters are deeply unhappy. Beyond that, mental health is not mentioned.
No mention of him being diagnosed with anything. Hes just abusive. Sociopath is a loose and bold term to use about a bad person and really paints how ableist people believe violence and uncaring = mental illness.
In addition the three most prominent black characters have a sort of plot armor due to acting as the Greek chorus (which seems to also spare them from the Director’s Cut ending). The villian is also clearly black coded but any other debates about how it’s portrayal aside, it only dies at the end and even then it survives in the director’s cut
Some kissing. Audrey describes the sexual aspects of her relationship with Orin, but it’s mainly for comedic purposes or to make you feel empathy for her.
There are several murders. Seymour chops up a dead body, but we don’t see the body as he does so. We do see him feeding the body parts to the plant though
