In the 1950s, Elizabeth Zott's dream of being a scientist is challenged by a society that says women belong in the domestic sphere. She accepts a job on a TV cooking show and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives way more than recipes.
This tv show contains 54 potentially triggering events.
The dog is still alive by the ep. BUT inexplicably begins a heartbreaking narrative (the dog talks, never talked before). I could not handle the grief and pain expressed by the dog monologue. While the has not died, it suffers.
A larger woman asks Elizabeth during a Q&A what her secret to being thin is. Elizabeth says it's mostly genetics, but it's implied the larger woman is unhappy with her own body.
No however discussion of it in a key scene of the finale. Also Elizabeth realises she’s pregnant as she has a diary page tracking her cycle (briefly shown)
During flashbacks, Elizabeth's father berates her older brother for being gay. There is yelling and he grabs the boy by the collar and throws him to the ground. The brother later kills himself.
Elizabeth is issued drugs during childbirth without permission, which she says she is mad about later. (She’s mostly mad that it makes her less aware rather than the pain part)
Female MC is kissed against her will and then forced against a table as the man grinds (both clothed) on her backside. To avoid the whole scene (kiss included) look away as the man says 'one of the proudest moments of my academic career' (1:34). Safe to look again when he says 'You fucking bitch' at 2:16.
Look away/stop listening when 'Miss Aminos!' is said during the pageant (around 22:23). Safe to look/listen at 22.39, 'Oh no I need to go home'. There is audio and visual of the V*.
Definitely not in support of cops. There is a scene (approx 33:00-34:30) where a group of mostly black people are holding a peaceful protest which is broken up violently by police. One man and woman are beaten with batons, others are dragged away or thrown against walls.
A supporting character's father has cancer, throughout the episode there are several scenes of them in a hospital room. No medical procedures are show.
Female MC has frequent flashbacks of being SA'd by a senior-level man. Whenever she is in a room with a closed door with any man she is visibly panicked.
Elizabeth's brother is locked in the trunk of their father's car by their father as punishment. Their father stops and talks to John but then closes him back inside.
During a flashback to Elizabeth's childhood, her brother kills himself due to persecution for being gay. You hear a gunshot and see a flash from behind a closed door, then the door is opened and his body with a pool of blood can be seen. It's not a close view, and is only shown for a few seconds.
There is a scene where Calvin teaches Elizabeth how to row but the boat shakes and they both fell into the water. Elizabeth later tells Calvin that she didn’t know how to swim. So another day Calvin teaches Elizabeth how to swim. They are in a pool so this is where we see several underwater scenes.
Minor. A few times the screen shows the perspective that an onscreen camera is filming, and one point a broadcast interruption message fills the screen.
You actually see a man hit by a bus. The hitting scene is shown and we later see a shoe on the ground. We don’t see the body again. There is no blood. It is very sudden.
When Calvin and Elizabeth falls off the boat, we later learn that Elizabeth didn’t know how to swim. There is no struggling scene of her drowning but right before Calvin is saving her, there is a brief moment of realizing that she is not coming to the surface.
