This is very subjective, so there may be varying answers. The mother chose to walk a path continually hurting/killing children, ultimately willing to do the same thing to her daughter until last minute, when it became too late. I count that as the cycle of abuse—acting out followed by regret and honeymoon phase type behavior.
Out of all the characters taking on bad guys, the only black character was knocked out with very little effort in the first quarter of the movie, kidnapped and rendered useless.
