The graphic novel "Through the Moon" ends with Rayla leaving Callum in the middle of the night to hunt down Viren. She leaves him a letter but does not stay to actually say goodbye to him. This event is a key factor in setting up season four and is referenced many times throughout.
Claudia and Soren are both emotionally abused by their father throughout the majority of the show. It's a prominent plotline and definitely potentially triggering.
In season three episode four "The Midnight Desert" A character's pet is bitten by a snake and has the soul drained from it. It is technically still alive afterwards but it is a husk and it wanders away into the desert. In season three episode six "Thunderfall" a character's pet phoenix dies, however, it is established immediately that she is not gone forever and will be revived. The phoenix is later seen flying around, completely unharmed. Later, in season six episode one "Startouched" a creature of questionable sentience is killed offscreen. He's not necessarily a pet but it's possible that this could still be triggering. All of the other pets make it out unscathed.
During a training session, one character teases another in a manor similar to bullying. This character also picks on the other one throughout seasons 1-2.
There is not sexual assault in the show, however, in season six episode six "Moment of Truth", there is a scene where Viren describes holding his wife still so that he could collect her tears for a dark magic spell. It is illustrated with hand drawn images and the way it is described may be reminiscent of sexual assault for some people. The scene starts at 17:45 and is over at 19:00.
Characters use their own blood for magic multiple times over the course of the show. The notable examples that I can recall are at the very end of season two episode three "Voyage of the Ruthless" where Viren considers cutting his hand for the purposes of a ritual, season two episode seven "Fire and Fury" from 23:00 to 23:30 where both Viren and Aaravos cut their hands for a ritual, and season five episode nine "Infantis Sanguine" from 9:00 to 9:22 where Claudia pricks her finger to use a small amount of her own blood in a potion.
Throughout season one, Rayla has an enchanted binding on her wrist which is slowly constricting the bloodflow to her hand. She talks about how, if she cannot remove the binding, then it will eventually cut off her hand. The binding does get removed before this happens and there are no graphic injuries, but her hand does slowly turn purple over the course of the season and she experiences pain from the binding. In season four, episode four "Through the Looking Glass" A woman's hands are badly burned. This scene starts at 14:00 and is over at 14:20.
In season six episode eight "We All Fall Down" from about 15:22 - 16:00, there is a scene where a dragon chokes and asphyxiates, dying as a result. In season four episode two "Fallen Stars" from about 13:00 to 13:30, there's a scene in which a character has a panic attack and passes out from hyperventilating. In season four episode four " Through the Looking Glass" from about 20:50 to 21:18, there is a scene in which a character struggles to breathe and briefly passes out as a result. In season three episode seven "Hearts of Cinder" from about 15:00 to 15:40 there is a scene where three characters pass out due to the air getting thinner at higher altitudes.
In season three episode four, there is a scene in which a caterpillar weaves a web over Viren's eye. The eye itself is undamaged, but it still appears uncomfortable and may be triggering. The scene starts at 5:50 and is over at 6:30.
Until season 6 it was minor gore, but during season 6 there is BLOOD. LOTS of blood. Dark magic. Any actions are offscreen, but you can see someone’s chest cover in blood, and lots of blood on the floor. And in someone’s hair. Hands.
The only murder is of a hybrid creature,,, apart from the chest thing which was a sort of suicide sacrifice.
My gosh it got dark.
[SPOILERS]
Not one of the main group of Callum, Ezran, Rayla, Bait, and Zym, but several major characters die including King Harrow in season one episode three "Moonrise" and Viren in season six episode eight "We All Fall Down".
Deaf character IS played by deaf actress in her one vocal line; however, semi canon autistic character, who also loses a limb, is not played by a disabled actor as far as I know.
No, but, if ghosts trigger you:
- dead people are shown in dreams
- there’s a weird thing of people who are made of dark magic, it’s really not shown much tho.
In the episode "We All Fall Down" from 15:22 to 16:00 there is a scene in which a dragon eats an elf and then chokes on the body. It's not gory or bloody but may be disturbing.
Yes, there are dream sequences which are unstable and weird, and a point where a character makes a speech and is sort of put over another scene happening at the same time, it’s a bit odd.
Deaf ASL user swears offscreen, I’ve seen some ppl saying she also swore onscreen in a different scene but I don’t know if she did or not, it’s a bit awkward to tell.
It’s always censored by her translators.
There’s ONE SCENE where it doesn’t make sense bc one character is out over a scene that they’re not in, and also there’s MANY meme references and pop culture references which can break the wall a bit.
If you watched ATLA, there are deliberate references to this as one of the MC’s voice actor is in that.
Technically yes, but it starts pretty vague. The child starts as a caterpillar that is born from the combined magic of two characters. It is later revealed to be their child in S5 E9.
SUPER COOL REPRESENTATION.
Okay, a canon autistic character - BIT TRIGGERING IM GONNA MENTION THIS ON AUTISM SPECIFIC QUESTIONS - a deaf character and a sort of canon autistic character are shown. An animal has lost a limb. The rep is AWESOME. There’s rare ableism, one character is dismissive when someone’s educating them on sign language, but later is very happy to try to use it… literally hardly any ableism at all.
One character is scared of losing their hand but I don’t think it’s “oh I can’t be disabled” it’s injury & big life event and I think that’s fair but your call.
In season two, episode six "Heart of a Titan" two sapphic characters die in a flashback. There are many other lgbtq characters in the show who do not die.
In the episode "The Frozen Ship" there is a scene where a character is bathing in a lake and thus is nude. Only her upper back, legs and arms are visible (nothing inappropriate) but it is worth noting. Other than that, there is no nudity.
