Sy "the photo guy" Parrish has lovingly developed photos for the Yorkin family since their son was a baby. But as the Yorkins' lives become fuller, Sy's only seems lonelier, until he eventually believes he's part of their family. When "Uncle" Sy's picture-perfect fantasy collides with an ugly dose of reality, what happens next "has the spine-tingling elements of the best psychological thrillers!"
This movie contains 28 potentially triggering events.
Heavily implied the main character was a victim of child pornography. He stalks a family and violently threatens the adulterous husband and his affair partner.
A woman is forced to strip at knife point and pretend to give a man fellatio. For what it's worth, the offender isn't doing this out of sexual motivation, but it still counts as sexual assault nonetheless.
Characters are forced to act sexual with each other under the threat of violence onscreen. There is nudity and it’s an uncomfortable scene. Though, they are not made to actually commit any sexual acts as they only pretend to. You could skip from 1:12:19 to 1:15:47 but you’ll miss the small cuts to cops. They’re not super important. If you want to skip and see the small cuts, here. Timestamps: 1:12:19 - 1:13:43 and 1:13:52 - 1:14:20 - (2 second cut to a missed call) 1:14:22 - 1:15:47. Hope this helps.
Debatable. Sy has a dream where he bleeds profusely from his eyes. Look away when you see him in a big white room standing between two empty aisles. It ends after you hear him scream.
If this counts as copaganda then it's fairly mild. In the final act there are cops that investigate the case and eventually arrest a man that committed crimes. It's not really glorifying the police at all and they're not even particularly competent (the lead detective wasn't really taking the case seriously at first, and it took them a very long time to get to that hotel room, lol).
I don't know where to put this note but, to try and not spoil too much, Sy is mentally unwell and his behaviors made me sad to see how he was treated. Wouldn't say it's D.I.D. tho but if you're specifically sensitive to ppl with mental illnesses/obsessive behaviors/making up false realities, etc be cautious maybe
The main character often has realistic fantasies about inserting himself into a family's life. The film presents these daydreams as real before showing it is all in Sy's head.
Not outright stated to be PTSD, but it's implied the way the main character forces a couple to perform sexual poses in front of a camera is similar to the abuse his own father put him through as a child. He later breaks down crying when alluding to that abuse. His years-long obsession with collecting the photographs of a happy family he does not belong to is also perhaps tied to this trauma as he becomes unstable when their perfect family image is shattered.
Nothing super overt, but many characters appear uncomfortable around Sy due to his social ineptitude. He is also clearly mentally ill and either doesn't have any access to help, or isn't seeking it.
Several photos of a naked woman are on screen at one point. Anal sex is briefly mentioned but never depicted. A man and a woman are interrupted during sex, some nudity is briefly visible.
The whole movie is kind of a downer to be honest, but I don't think the ending itself is particularly sad. If anything it's more hopeful that Sy is not a completely depraved person, as it is revealed he never photographed the sexual acts -- he did not repeat the same abuse that he went through in the end.
