Juan and his urban family live in the Mexican countryside, where they enjoy and suffer a world apart. And nobody knows if these two worlds are complementary or if they strive to eliminate one another.
A puppy is severely beaten (heard but not seen). As far as I could tell, the dog survives. Still, the movie is very disturbing if you're troubled by animal abuse.
Several scenes have shakey-cam, not all. However in many more scenes there is a strange lens effect that makes everything at the edges of the screen blurry and doubled, which has caused headaches, disorientation or nausea for some viewers.
