The true story of Sarah Rector, an African American born in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the early 1900s, who believes there is oil beneath the barren land she's allotted and whose faith is proven right. As greedy oil sharks close in, Sarah turns to her family, friends and some Texas wildcatters to maintain control of her oil-rich land, eventually becoming one of the nation's first female African American millionaires — at 11 years old.
While the dog (border collie) does survive, there is a scene in the first third of the movie where, off-screen, the dog gets shot. There is a dog cry, but no body is visible, just some blood. The family says the dog went off to die alone and later, the girl finds the bloody collar that fell off the dog. In the middle of the second third of the movie (after 30-40 minutes of thinking the dog was killed), the dog returns alive and is shown healthy and happy the rest of the movie. If you are sensitive to dogs crying or concern for dogs, please be aware.
