German Shepherd named Eva is shot and killed when attacking someone. He lets out a loud whine for a few seconds. Not an easy scene for animal lovers, but it does make sense for its inclusion in the storyline. Pretty easy to skip. Just fast forward as soon as the owner lets go of Eva’s collar and she starts sprinting.
Dog owner yells angrily at his dog, and confines him in a tiny closet. He may have smacked the dog a few times to keep him quiet, which his body language seemed to indicate, but it isn’t obvious or shown on screen.
there aren't flashbacks in this movie; while there are frequent non-detailed references to the Holocaust, the antisemitism shown in the movie is happening in the present day. the police officer who other commenters note sends his dog after Zev talks proudly about his father's involvement in Kristallnacht and calls Zev the k word.
