Quite a bit of violence / violence against women generally. The DV aspect happens right at the beginning- first 5-10 mins with apparent romantic involvement and putting a woman “in her place” when she is belligerent and won’t stop speaking (a theme of the movie). She slapped and punched by this dating partner and his colleague.
There are no animal deaths in this movie. There is talk of reanimating a cat and there are some cats in the house but the kitties are just fine. I did spot a German shepherd head in the background of a scene in the mad scientist office but it's not gory or upsetting and I'm a total wimp.
There are multiple sexual assaults an attempted rapes throughout the film. In one, a woman is held down screaming while two men prepare to rape her. A man attempts to sexually assault his date in a movie theater in another scene. A cop sexually assaults a woman he pulled over on the side of the road.
1st scene happens when leaving the nightclub, she is assaulted by three men. 2nd scene is when they are pulled over by a cop on the side of the road, he is the aggressor.
I don't know who is saying no to this--it's so explicit and graphic and you hear it very clearly breaking. But it's a closed break so you don't see the bone.
When these two guys try to mess with Frank and his bride, he smashes both their/bodies heads – one against the wall and one with his foot on the ground
There are no typical jump scares. There could be an argument made for ###spoiler warning### near the end of the film in the outdoor cinema when someone gets shot during a proposal.
The movie takes place in the fictional world of Frankenstein but also Mary Shelley is a character in that world, talking about the fictional world she created. There are also scenes where characters on a movie screen turn into the characters from the movie we're watching.
