They're the Get Backers, and they live by a simple motto: If it was taken, we'll get it back. Their success rate is 100%. They may have no luck with money, but they always come through on a job, no matter how small. Ban and Ginji are no ordinary retrieval service though. With Ginji's ability to generate lightning and Ban's Jagan Eye and 200kg force grip, they'll take on any job, from retrieving stuffed toys to fine art to lost memories. If the GetBackers say they'll get it back, they will!
A whole room of people is seen burning alive - although it's entirely an illusion, and nobody actually burns at all. There are several other scenes of people seeing illusions of burning alive, and later, a poisoned perfume is used which - when breathed in - supposedly feels like burning alive.
There is a scene in episode 7 where a man is overwhelmed by clusters of hundreds of worms, centipedes and butterflies, as well as a very large centipede.
One of the characters has an ability to store blades in his body and uses them offensively on others. There are many fight scenes involving blades or cuts, both on people or objects. A character takes off their shirt and reveals many scars across his body.
A character has an ability to restrain people using magical threads, holding them in place. There are scenes during fight sequences where characters are pinned or held back. One of the main characters with a grip force of 200kg grabs several characters on the back of the neck ("the brain stem") to hold them in place threateningly.
A poisoned perfume is used which, when inhaled, supposedly feels like burning alive. Characters are seen struggling to breathe upon inhaling it, even when using it in battle.
One of the main characters has an ability to make others see illusions for a minute as long as they make eye contact with him. This can be sprung on someone at any time, with no way to snap out of it until the illusion passes.
Episode 1 has a hospital scene during a flashback with a character implied to be terminally ill, though they are not seen suffering. Episode 2 has many ambulance sirens, as well as a scene where a dying character is pulled onto a stretcher surrounded by ambulance personnel.
Episode 2 introduces an important homeless character and explores the story behind how they got there. The main characters are also in a situation of being sort-of homeless in the same episode.
