Stingo, a young writer, moves to Brooklyn in 1947 to begin work on his first novel. As he becomes friendly with Sophie and her lover Nathan, he learns that she is a Holocaust survivor. Flashbacks reveal her harrowing story, from pre-war prosperity to Auschwitz. In the present, Sophie and Nathan's relationship increasingly unravels as Stingo grows closer to Sophie and Nathan's fragile mental state becomes ever more apparent.

although the exact point of physical contact occurs offscreen, it’s pretty darn clear that sophie’s boyfriend is f*ngering her while threatening her with menacing, degrading language and then choking her with the other hand. filmed from the shoulders up. she is frozen in place and crying in extreme distress. occurs at roughly 1:11ish, you can see it coming since he puts his hand under her dress onscreen.

While making out with a girl Stingo repeatedly attempts to grope her in ways she's clearly not comfortable with. There is also a scene where Nathan, while manic, sticks his hand up Sophie's dress without her consent while he degrades her (the camera stays at eye level so it is unclear what he's specifically doing, but Sophie's reaction implies SA)
