To the person not wanting details - don't read them! Look at the little red box and you have your YES. Stop there. :) I appreciate the details, I want to know if I should skip the whole movie or if it's something I can get through.
Yes, due to a suicide by that parent. I have a friend who actually did lose both his parents to suicide before he was 18, and I advised him to pass on watching it.
So the mom is clearly dealing with grief and is taking it out on her kids (especially her son) and while its maybe not sincere, both children allow her to apologize and somewhat forgive the actions
Heavily implied - around 27ish minutes when Ramona looks at Annie’s “Happy Happy Pup Pup” book, skip to 33 minutes. The next scene starts when Ramona is back inside and Taylor wakes up. Annie is writing “red” on her worksheet.
a short scene of a woman digging into her stitches and pulling a small string out of her + a large wound on a head that appears a couple of times. its not bad
The torture is largely psychological. The mother spends portions of the movie in altered mental states with her body and actions apparently outside of her control.
At approximately the 11 minute mark, the mother lets some eggs fall out of her mouth onto her plate. Immediately following this, the dog v* (visual, no audio). It is only shown for a couple seconds, but mentioned after that. Cleanup is mentioned but happens off-screen, though you do see wadded up paper towels being thrown away (with no visual evidence).
The rest of the film is 100% safe.
Agree with other comments. I would never, EVER recommend this film to anyone who has had suicidal ideation, and ESPECIALLY not to anyone I think might be currently considering suicide.
SPOILERS BELOW-
I really hope this movie doesn’t cause anyone considering suicide to go through with it. I didn’t even think the ending was ambiguous (though I lost my best friend to suicide not long ago, so I might be more sensitive to the subject than most) and even before we see the writing on the painting was backwards, when I heard the gunshot, I knew the lead had taken her own life. Everything suddenly being great again was clearly her on “the other side”. I actually think there should be a trigger warning, even if it’s a bit spoiler-y… but that’s just my opinion, and could be due to my personal experience.
The mother has sent her kids away so they arent there while she ends her life, its not on screen and there is an end scene that is indicative that she has moved into the mirror world after her death in which things are happier
Nobody is actually shot but it is pointed by at the woman in the yard and later the mom points it at herself with the guidance of the woman in the yard
