I disagree -- Mike did throw the map in the creek on purpose. It might be fair to say he got what he had coming. And they were all stressed out (understandably) in the beginning of the movie when they are lost in the woods. I feel like all three characters acted poorly towards each other when they were so anxious about being lost.

None of them are really “scary” though, you just build very high level of suspense and then suddenly a tree will be in the foreground lit up white by the camera, for example. So it’s more of an existing suspension paired with unpredictable environment. Hope that makes sense.

As said in the other comment, there is a conversation between the characters that involves the Skipper’s weight from Gilligans Island. If I remember correctly it didn’t really come across as directly offensive, just a “You’d be the skipper from Gilligan’s Island” “The skipper’s fat!” “Oh yeah” not verbatim. I also could be remembering wrong from the sheer amount of fear in my body during this film lol
