A pretty standard zombie flick elevated by some over-the-top gore. The infected must have been nudists because I've never seen so many zombie full frontals! Get ready for plenty of jump scares and projectile vomiting. The grossest thing for me was Ralph Fiennes showing how to remove flesh from a skull. Yuck!
Synopsis
Twenty-eight years since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one member departs on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.

I paused the movie and skipped through the deer scene (even the still images looked horrific). It started a little after 26 minutes in with the deer carcass and to be safe I skipped to 27:50. From there on it was safe.

Around 45 min in (approximately I didn’t look at my watch) there is a scene where a deers head gets ripped off. It’s pretty awful but only lasts about 2-3 seconds. When the father and son are walking through the woods and see the deer head stuck up in a tree would be your cue to know it’s coming.

The deer scene is maybe 30 minutes or so in, right after the montage of life in the peninsula community with children singing Abide With Me. The montage ends with Isla looking out a window, and the next scene is Jamie and Spike walking through a forest. They come across an eviscerated deer carcass - very graphic - and then find the head in the tree, before a flashback showing how it was killed. The scene is maybe two minutes long, and it cuts back to the deer’s body and the head a few times.
A fish is also killed near the end. A character shoots an arrow into water; we don’t see the fish die, but in the next shot the character is cooking the fish on a stick over a fire

When Spike and his dad first cross the causeway you hear the Boots poem - during these moments there are multiple cuts to various grainy clips. The red nightvision footage later on appears with lots of video noise/grain and various quick jump cuts.
When the characters discuss Dr Kelson and “fire” we cut to shots of roaring flames. Also note the image flickers quite a bit due to use of candles, torches during the village party and later a log fire in the bone temple at night.
Later a sequence with soldiers includes muzzle fire/gun shot flashes, and flashlights moving quickly in the dark. A few scenes later in the gas station there’s more gunfire and a big explosion followed by plenty of flames. More sudden gunfire in the train carriage.
