In this highly speculative historical thriller, Colonel Franz Ritter (George C. Scott), a former hero pilot now working for military intelligence, is assigned to the great Hindenburg airship as its chief of security. As he races against the clock to uncover a possible saboteur aboard the doomed zeppelin he finds that any of the passengers and crew could be the culprit.
I accidentally hit “yes” but I don’t know for sure. I came to investigate when I saw them loading a Dalmatian on board, but that’s how far I’m into it. Given what happens…I don’t have high hopes but will report back.
I’m reporting back—IT LIVES! Woohoo! Lots of people died, but you’ll have that. Go dogs!
The Hindenburg crashes due to flammable hydrogen. The airship is still in the air when the fire breaks out, and many can't escape. Many of the people who die, die as a result of being burned. Original footage as well as studio footage is quite graphic in that regard.
Towards the end, the riggers are called to the commander's quarters. One of the riggers appears, and is seemingly in the middle of shaving. The scene does not depict the actual shaving, but he's got soap on his face and a towel around his neck.
It's a movie that takes place during the Third Reich. Lots of talk about Nazis and Hitler. That said, there is commentary by a character that disparages rural folks in the New Jersey Pine Barrens.
