The main actor (C. Thomas Howell) walks up to a car on the side of the road, knowing the lethal hitcher was in that car, he stops to look inside the car. Some blood drips on his shoe (the family in the car was obviously slaughtered, but not shown) and he runs back to his car and it happens.
