The film talks about a family that weathers all sorts of disasters and keeps going in spite of it all. It is noted for its wonderful assortment of oddball characters.
Not technically bestiality, but there is a scene where a human dressed as a bear attempts to rape a man. (I promise: I am not joking. This is an actual scene in this movie)
Not technically abandonment, since the animal is already deceased, but Sorrow, the taxidermy pet dog, gets left behind on a beach. (How he ends up there is quite possibly the strangest thing I have ever seen in film)
A bear is shot at the beginning. It’s not graphic and looks very fake, the bear keeps trying to get up because it doesn’t want to lay still in the shot.
The family pets both die in this movie: a former motorcycle bear is shot and killed by a hunter (no blood is shown), and Sorrow the dog is euthanized for having stinky farts, then turned into a taxidermy pet.
