TW AND SPOILERS: On-screen r*pe occurs to Powaqa for probably 10 seconds. She is seen struggling against the attacker beforehand & a scream is heard. She remains rather motionless, teeth gritted whilst on screen during the assault. Also, she cries and he moans. For those with subtitles, this is described with some detail. Glass is able to get a gun and threaten him before Powaqa grabs the man’s knife and threatens to cut off his testicles. This takes place with around 40 minutes left in the movie.
Multiple people do, but Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) gets his throat sliced open by a bear and does have a lot of trouble breathing until he solders it closed with gun powder.
We are told of the death of Fitzgerald's father. There is also a brief scene where a woman is gunned down. It is implied this might've been Hawk's mother.
The first one is when they’re rolling the bear off of Glass. A guy vomits. I barely noticed, there’s no sound but there is a visual.
The second is when he’s (Leonardo DiCaprio) crawling towards the dead bison by a large fire and a man throws him some raw meat. He will vomit after the first or second bite, but after that there’s no more vomiting. It’s quick but it does show it, but not super graphic. There are noises though.
This movie is full of excessive and graphic physical and sexual violence against native people all to develop the white leads character. Lots of slurs and at one point a native character is hung with "savage" written on him in French.
The representation of the violence that did occur during american expansionism is incredibly skewed and tends to show native people as violent and primative. Native characters are not allowed to speak, are killed (and raped) for the development of the white main character, and are often shown covered in blood or eating raw meat
Hawk - who is half-pawnee - is not the first character killed, as the movie opens with the scene of the fur traders being attacked by Arikara raiders. However, he is the first named character killed.
There is a scene where one character is held at gunpoint, and another where someone fires an unloaded gun at another specifically to terrorize them. There are several shootouts in the same vain as a Western movie. A large majority of the fighting in this movie involves rifles.
