When danger threatens her camp, the fierce and highly skilled Comanche warrior Naru sets out to protect her people. But the prey she stalks turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal.
Not exactly. There is one scene where the female lead fights with her fellow tribesmen and loses. However, she does fight effectively back, it's not a beating and it's not between family members.
People not believing her does not mean she was gaslit. Gaslighting means to intentionally manipulate someone into questioning their experiences when the gaslighter knows their victim is telling the truth. For example: a parent denying being abusive to their child when the child has very clear memories of the abuse. Someone not believing that someone saw a monster in the woods is not gaslighting. Sorry.
The comment above is inaccurate. No animals are being skinned alive. A number of animals are skinned, but only the aftermath is shown. There is a skinned snake carcass that convulses when touched for a small jumpscare, which may be what the above commenter meant.
A mouse is killed by a snake, the snake is killed by the predator, the predator kills a wolf, humans kill a mountain lion and a bird, humans skin a herd of buffalo, and the predator kills a bear.
No at one point it really seems like that might happen because of the situation and the history of movies like The Revenant doing so but it never does which is part of why this movie is so great.
If you look up the English translation to what the French colonizers are saying, they imply they "will make her sing" and that they can "use it", with "it" being assumed to be the main character. Though not explicit, with history and how the Frenchmen were acting, rape is heavily implied as what they intended to do with Naru.
Not exactly. There is an explosion scene, and though it is not shown up close and personal, the explosion(s) are shown as a fireball. This does kill people. It is implied the explosion, not fireball, killed them.
A few spitting scenes—some after a fight to get rid of blood in the mouth, I think maybe one or two out of contempt (like spitting on the ground to show dislike for something or someone).
So much blood and gore. Interestingly, my personal this gore is a lot less awful than most other movies that aim to have gorey shock value. Still very gorey, very bloody.
No, but the scenes involving the Predator's spaceship coming through the clouds may be disturbing to some, as there's lightning, dark clouds, and fire. and there's an explosion of sorts from one of the Predator's weapons around 1:07:15-1:07:30
