Dog does not die. Just wanna say up front: this movie is triggering for anyone who has experienced suicide of a loved one/suicidal ideation, and anyone who has experienced psychosis (such as in the context of schizophrenia).
Not dead but dying kangaroo, and it's pretty awful to see. To skip the kangaroo scene, jump from 7:05 when Mia gets out of the car to 8:20 when it cuts to a different scene inside a house. Mia also briefly talks about it around 9:05.
Characters are possessed, but they present almost exactly the same as someone with schizophrenia who has delusions that everyone around them is an imposter. If this wasn't a ghost movie, I would assume multiple characters have schizophrenia.
First thing in the movie, a guy stabs himself in the face. Main character's mom killed herself prior to the story. Later in the movie, the mom's suicide note is read aloud.
