The Social Network
Movie • 2010 • Drama
ReportOn a fall night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room as a small site among friends soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history... but for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications.

Ambiguous. When Eduardo arrives at Mark’s California house, he sees two extremely inebriated girls and asks Sean how old they are, clearly implying he thinks they’re underage. Sean does not answer him.

Sort of, however innocently. The incident in question stems from a mistake made by Eduardo, who was tasked with being a caretaker of a chicken as part of a hazing ritual into a Harvard club. He feeds the animal chicken meat, not taking into account the optics of the act, and is ousted by the college paper when a witness reported in the act. All of this takes place off-screen, but it remains an embarrassing moment for the character.

Theres a scene where a bottle of beer explodes very abrubtly in front of the camera in a weird angle, that could be seen as a kind of jumpscare.

Brief scene of a college co-ed Shawn Parker (of Napster fame) slept with the night prior (not shown in the film) stepping in-and-out-and-back-in the shower fairly quickly.

33:30 more or less. Just mute and/or look away after Eduardo correctly answers the hazing question, it’s very brief but clear audio and visual

Ambiguous; Andrew Garfield’s character is Jewish and is part of a Jewish frat, which is shown in a negative light. It is also joked that he is being recruited to another frat for diversity purposes

In the opening montage, there are brief shots of various college-age party-goers acting sexual and even stripping down to their skivvies in a game of poker. Later in the film, two college girls take both Mark and Eduardo for oral sex in bathroom stalls. The scene cuts out just as the action gets going.

SPOILER: Ending is bittersweet. Mark is on the path to settle on multiple lawsuits, one of which is filed by his former best friend Eduardo -- all stemming from inner politics and bad blood between actors in the creation of the Facebook site. The whole event has left Mark effectively alone, an ironic twist of fate for somebody wanting a more robust social life. He's left with the assurance of a stranger that he's not an a-hole but he should take steps not to act like one. The film ends open-ended (since Facebook still exists and the life of the real-life Mark Zuckerberg has been pretty well-off) with Mark waiting for a girl he harassed earlier in the film to accept his friend request.
