An angel named Gabriel (Keanu Reeves) tries to help a man who is struggling to make ends meet in Los Angeles (Aziz Ansari), by swapping his life with a super wealthy man, Jeff (Seth Rogen) in order to show him that wealth won’t solve all his problems. However, all doesn’t go according to plan when Ansari’s character actually loves the life. As punishment, Gabriel loses his wings and is sentenced to being a human, along with Jeff, who now lives without means as Arj had before.
As stated above, the scenes are quickly switching between Raj donating plasma and Jeff at the ayhuasca retreat. A few seconds after the woman says “magic mushrooms” at 25:45, Jeff is sick in a bucket (audio only), then immediately cuts to Raj sick at the plasma donation place (audio and visual). They are both shown with what looks like spit on their mouths and chins afterward. Total time until it’s safe is 18 seconds.
No, but an overarching theme of the film is fighting the feeling of hopelessness. A character repeatedly struggles to find their life worth living. While an overall sweet movie, some of the heavier content could be triggering to those who have felt despair.
There is a recurring joke about a character being perceived as attractive (none of them directed at the character themselves). This is more of a joke of the actor themselves being seen as attractive vs. The character.
We see a homeless shanty town, a side character is homeless and all four main characters have no fixed abode and live out of cars or motels at certain points of the film.
The film starts with a number of near misses. There is a fender bender with a parked car on screen. A character has a minor crash off screen. The protagonist has a bad crash but we only see them react, we don't see the accident on screen.
