A New York stockbroker refuses to cooperate in a large securities fraud case involving corruption on Wall Street, corporate banking world and mob infiltration. Based on Jordan Belfort's autobiography.
The fish wasn’t swallowed. Animal handlers were on set and reported Jonah Hill kept the fish in his mouth for three seconds. The still alive goldfish was placed back in water.
No one is given drugs nonconsensually but Jordan and Donnie take potent qualudes and they think they're expired so they take more and they all kick in at once unexpectedly.
At 2:38:00 Jordan persuades Naomi into having sex with her. She very clearly isn't interested in this and continues to tell him to stop until he's started already. Skip to 2:40:30 if needed.
Naomi, the main character's wife, repeatedly says No while he's suggesting sex and touching her. Then there's a cut and she's lying on the bed, he's upon her with a naked down-half and is having intercourse with her.
Not a seizure but both men have strange side effects after taking drugs that effect their capability to walk and talk. It’s done in a comedic way though!
A man is tortured by the crew for allegedly robbing money from Jordan. They beat him and hold him over the edge of the building by the legs. They bribe the cops to also beat him
Jonah hill and Leonardo’s characters discuss his kids being *r word* because Jonah married his cousin. They say it about 3 times and Jonah says if his kids were he would abandon them.
In the opening montage Leonardo says he has intercourse with hookers 6 times a week despite being married and it’s never seen in a negative way it’s seen as normal
Not directly,
Jordan attempts to 'kidnap' his own daughter as Naomi threatens to file for sole custody, and endangers the daughter while driving on drugs.
There is a whole scene where Jordan is on a boat and there are shots during this scene where you can see the sea. It’s not a trigger I have, but I thought I’d note it for those who do have the trigger.
1:04:45-1:05:00: they are questioning someone and Jonah Hill's character throws up when he gets blood splashed on him, just mute/look away when they start beating the guy up
1:55:20-1:55:33: someone gives Leo's character some Lemmons and he prepares to take them by throwing up first, apparently there's no visual just sounds.
Btw, there's this amazing Tumblr page called Emetophobia Warnings, you can find almost all movies and warnings there! :)
Unreliable narrator. The only time this felt really unstable for me is when he's shown driving home just fine, and then later walks outside to see the car a wreck, and it cuts back again to him driving erratically this time.
There is a child had between first cousins, the main characters describe the risk of him being "retarded," saying that if he is, they will leave him in the forest to die, or send him to an institution. There is a later scene where the kid is described as retarded, they say "you have to look at his chin, you can't look him in the eye, or he just goes like this [crazy]" and they discuss sexually abusing the child before throwing him at a dart board.
There is narration throughout the film if that counts, but to add to the other comment here the second in-person fourth wall break occurs in a crowd where you hear Jordan narrate at first, then he comes out of the crowd still talking and looks at the camera while he does.
A hidden camera is in a bedroom during a sexual scene, while people watch from the other side.
[During the 'daddy' scene in the child's bedroom, between John and his wife]
The protagonist gets arrested, but we all know he deserved it. However, he ends up enjoying his time in prison and gets released after 2 years of something. He is last seen spreading his philosophy.
An intense scene of characters stuck on a boat in dark, stormy seas, and a plane explodes, seen from a distance. The main character states that the plane hit a bird and “three people died” in the crash. The boat containing the main characters has its windows destroyed by a gigantic wave. If you have a phobia of being stuck on any kind of doomed vehicle, this is a pretty tough scene.
