ReportSynopsis
A social misfit, Willard is made fun of by his co-workers, and squeezed out of the company started by his deceased father by his boss. His only friends are a couple of rats he raised at home, Ben and Socrates. However, when one of them is killed at work, he goes on a rampage using his rats to attack those who have been tormenting him.

The other comment is about the remake from 2003. In the original 1971 film, the cat is simply abandoned with a stranger and never seen again.

A pet rat is killed on screen. It's not graphic or shown in depth but it does have quick shots of the rat actor covered in fake blood. No real rats were harmed in the making of this movie as well.

Ben the rat is often mistreated but he's not portrayed as being sad very much more angry and defiant.

Willard is very likely autistic based on his behaviour and mistreated, partially because of his autism. However this movie was made in the 1970s so it's not like they actually ever say that he's autistic. He's just seen as a weirdo in general.

Willard is probably autistic and he is like the villain of the movie but I don't think his autism itself is portrayed offensively in any way.

Someone is called the f slur but it's not directed at someone who is LGBT, instead towards someone who was scared seeing a rat. It is only said a single time in the movie.

No humans drown, but rats are drowned. We don't see the animals themselves, but there are extended shots of the character holding them underwater.
