Carl Morck, a former top-rated detective in Edinburgh, is assigned to a new cold case whilst wracked with guilt following an attack that left his partner paralysed and another policeman dead.
several scenes discussing the physical, psychological, and emotional abuse of two boys by their mother through various means, including confining them for long unspecified amounts of time
Spoilers!!!! Neglect is described by Merritt and William’s dad and the Jennings brothers are both abused by their mother by being locked in the pressure chamber
In a way yes It is consensual between two adults at the time but SPOILERS it is later revealed that one of the people was pretending to be someone completely different
A man has a woman captive, while she’s sedated he kisses her neck without consent. Also, a teenager is threatened with sexual violence in another episode
I would not personally say excessive, but it is a bit bloodier than most cop/mystery shows. most of the gore is offscreen, unfocused, or quickly cut away from, though there is a slightly lingering shot of a man's face after being hit with a buckshot.
Several characters punched or kicked in the face in or around the eye. One develops a "dead eye" after being kicked and another is hit in the eye with a hammer, though the visuals are not detailed and the camera quickly cuts away. Another character lost an eye in an off-screen attack and the resulting scar over her eyelid and face is shown, as well as a piece of gauze over it from a scene taking place shortly after. There are a couple mentions of taking an eye out.
We see Carl shower once and (spoilers) Merritt showers a few times in the chamber but there is little to no nudity, although Merritt is observed by cameras at all times
Several scenes in the visiting room of a prison. Another scene in a character's cell, but it is dark and not very detailed. Some of the logistics of incarceration (sentencing, confinement, transferring of an incarcerated person) are discussed.
