Madoka Kaname, an ordinary middle-schooler, along with her best friend Sayaka Miki, are offered the chance to have any wish they want granted by the mysterious Kyubey, and become magical girls and fight witches. However, fellow magical girl Homura Akemi seems intent on stopping Madoka from becoming a magical girl at any cost. Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part I: Beginnings is a retelling of the first half of the TV anime series.
While teenage girls are put through a lot of violence (both fantasy-based and realistic), it is not portrayed in any way as a spectacle. The system that forces them into traumatic situations is heavily criticized and treated with proper gravitas.
I’m unsure how much this counts as “abuse”, but Madoka’s mom, Junko, is shown to drink alcohol on at least an occasional basis, and in one scene, she’s clearly drunk.
Kyubey, a cat-like creature, temporarily dies - but he is shown shortly after to be effectively immortal. (Plus he's not exactly a sympathetic character, and has above-human intelligence.)
Mami, a 15-year-old, is decapitated by a witch. Sayaka, a 14-year-old, dies temporarily in a fight with Kyoko when Madoka throws her soul gem away, but when Homura retrieves it she's revived.
A woman, and later on, a large group of people in public (including Hitomi), attempt suicide when under the influence of a witch kiss. Nobody dies, however, as Mami (for the woman), and Madoka and Sayaka (for the group of people) save them.
It has not been directly confirmed if any of the characters who die are LGBT, though it can be argued some implications are there. The only character who more-or-less has been confirmed to be sapphic does not die in the movie.
There's some bloodshed during witch fights (don't remember which specific ones except for the battle with Elsa-Maria later in the movie), and earlier on, Kyousuke smashes a CD player with his arm, making him bleed.
