Conrad and Sally Walden are home alone with their pet fish. It is raining outside, and there is nothing to do. Until The Cat in the Hat walks in the front door. He introduces them to their imagination, and at first it's all fun and games, until things get out of hand, and The Cat must go, go, go, before their parents get back.
This movie contains 27 potentially triggering events.
There’s a scene where the dog is thrown out the window and it upset my son that the dog was gone. The dog is also taken by the neighbor, again upsetting him that their dog is gone. The dog was unharmed throughout the movie but the actions upset him.
There is a scene in which the cat in the hat is hanging from a tree like a piñata however can be and was perceived my my friends girlfriend (who is triggered by hanging) as a hanging
There is the scene where the cat is hung and beaten multiple times with bats until finally being finished off in the most brutal place. Also, do the people watching the movie count?
Not really a toy (but toys do go up the tornado) but the house is destroyed and this upset my child. It’s all fixed in the end and he was happy but when it happened he was very upset.
There is a false jumpscare where a teddy is thrown to scare somebody, but the build up makes it seem like a jumpscare will happen. It may still make somebody jump.
the cat coughs up a hairball while introducing himself near the start of the film. he is sick into a bag in the S.L.O.W car while the boy is driving. he is pictured leaning into a ‘barf bag’ after travelling on mrs kwan. none of these in my opinion as an emetophobe myself were too graphic.
There’s a very strange joke with The Cat’s hat becoming “erect”. Later he drops a till and calls it a “Dirty hoe” only to pick it up say “I’m sorry baby, I love you…” then tries to lick it as very suggestive music plays
Mrs. Kwan is the only real person of color (east asian) and watches taiwanese parliament brawls and has an accent. She is portrayed as irresponsible. (falls asleep when meant to be taking care of children) There are a couple karate jokes and dubbing of nonsense "east asian" language over the tv. There is also a portion where the cat dresses up as a "vegan environmentalist" and wears locs. (I interpret this as making fun of how white people try to emulate rastafarian culture, which is still unfunny and uncomfortable since it is still a white person doing it.)
