A dead and charred coyote is seen (brief). A rattlesnake is killed and it’s tail is removed and given to a man for luck (offscreen). A man describes seeing a bear on fire and we see a brief glimpse of this a few times, however the bear is made of flames.
There are three dream sequences of a bear on fire shown throughout the movie. Later, we learn this was something witnessed by one of the firefighters. We are not shown the bear collapsing and dying, but based on the entire body being inflamed, there is no surviving. It’s a horrifying story, but the dream sequences only show the bear running, not screaming in pain or slowly dying.
A rattlesnake is hunted, killed, and the rattler is kept as a trophy. We don’t see, or hear, the killing of the snake during the movie.
Animal services brings an abused, slightly fearful horse, owned by deceased meth-heads, to Amanda Marsh to foster. We only see the aftermath of the abuse on the horse, including scars, recent injuries, and signs of neglect on the hooves. There are no scenes of horse abuse shown, and we get to see Marsh clean and care for the horse in a wholesome sequence.
One of the firefighters is bitten by a rattlesnake. It is told to him later while in hospital that the rest of the firefighters hunted down and killed the snake in retaliation, he is presented with the tail.
