The main character was raised in the 1930’s and 40’s so her mother can comes across as this by modern Western standards but honestly it’s nothing too egregious and she at least mellows out A LITTLE as the movie progresses if a bit of a stern matriarch type

The only one happens off-screen with the fact that a character is implied to have gone blind in one eye as result of a war

Not a toy but a character’s comfort object is stolen at one point in an act of sabotage. Not the same thing, but if can result in a similar triggering effect

I mean kind of, the closest is the Witch but otherwise all of the ghosts are not literal ghosts more like metaphorical ghosts from her memory

The main antagonist is a police officer that occasionally pops up again Chiyoko’s memory. Admittedly when we see him as an old man later in he claims he was only following orders but he’s not even necessarily forgiven by the other characters. On top of that, the movie is VERY critical of how Japan was during World War II

No but the first act of the movie is set in Imperial Japan (before and during World War II albeit the N*zis are “sir not appearing in this film”) albeit it is very critical of it

Admittedly it’s implied that Ōtaki is in his twenties-ish when he met Chiyoko who was in her early teens at the time, so it’s at least a little creepy from that angle. Chiyoko also met her main love interest when she was around that same age, it’s unclear how old the artist is but is likely a young adult

One common theory is that Chiyoko’s reality and filmography are sort of blending but it’s unconfirmed if she has dementia and that might’ve been the point

A character’s home is destroyed as a result of wartime bombing but we don’t see that much of their living situation in the aftermath, only described that the reconstruction of post-WWII Japan was pretty rough at first

A little bittersweet, however it's not presented in an unhappy way, but rather as a joyous celebration of the protagonist's life
